I’ll be honest: I struggled with my weight for years, and if you’re like me, then you know the struggle is real. I dieted constantly, felt awful about my body and guilty knowing my health would decline if I couldn’t fix the problem, but I only lost weight once I was able to track my body composition religiously. This can be time consuming, but I did have found a few products out there that make it much easier, including the FitTrack BMI Smart Scale.
Things to Consider Before Buying a Smart Scale
If you want to lose weight or get more fit, a smart scale might be a good choice for you. For example, a lot of people (me included!) find it really demoralizing to see their weight stay the same for a week or two on a regular scale. But a smart scale can show you your body fat percentage, rather than just a single number. Once I started using a smart scale, I was able to feel motivated by noticing that my body fat was reducing, even if I didn’t see the scale weight drop that week.
If you are interested in the whole picture of your health and in staying motivated on your fitness journey, you may be a great candidate for a smart scale like the FitTrack. Before making a purchase like this, keep in mind that the FitTrack is definitely a little more pricey than a regular scale, though it is relatively affordable compared to some of the other smart scales out there.
If budget is a concern for you, I would recommend saving money and simply tracking your weight on a daily or weekly basis using a website like WeightGrapher. This tool tracks your weight on a trendline that can help you see an overall picture of your weight going down even if the scale shows a blip upward for a couple days. I used this website for a while and it’s definitely more time consuming to manually enter your weight on the website, but it works well for what it is.
On the other hand, if you’re not too strapped for cash and you want all the information about your health at your fingertips, you might be the ideal customer for a smart scale like the FitTrack scale. For example, do you actually know how much fat versus muscle you have? Are you gaining muscle? What’s your BMI? These are some of the questions you can answer right away with the FitTrack.
What is the FitTrack?
The FitTrack scale is a smart scale that promises to help people lose weight and get fit by tracking body trends across 17 different body measurements. The scale connects to an app via Bluetooth and is very simple to set up.
When you step on the scale, you get an immediate health report available in your app listing your: Weight, Hydration Level, Body Mass Index, Muscle Mass, Subcutaneous Fat and Visceral Fat Index, Bone Mass, Muscle Rate, Base Metabolic Rate, Protein Rate, Metabolic Age, Weight Control, Protein Mass, Fat Mass, Bone Mass and Weight without Fat.
There are a number of smart scales on the market that have a similar function to the FitTrack. I talk about some alternatives to the FitTrack later on in this review, but suffice it to say that one major competitor is the Withings Body Scale, which also tracks a number of different body variables, although Withings is a far more expensive option. Withings does have some great features, like “athlete mode” for more active users, and it comes with a lifetime guarantee. However, it doesn’t track as many health markers as the FitTrack does, even at almost 6 times the price.
Every product has its positive and negative aspects. Here are a few things I see as pros and cons when it comes to the FitTrack scale:
Features and Benefits of the Fit Track Scale
There are a lot of FitTrack reviews online, but I wrote this one to get into the specific details that were most important to me. Let’s get into some of the features and benefits that I appreciate about the FitTrack.
Number one is the data. The main reason I, personally, like the FitTrack Scale so much is because it provides a huge amount of information. Losing weight and getting fit can sometimes feel a little like stumbling around in the dark, so it’s great to know what is working and what’s not, as well as gain a little perspective on the process.
For example, weight might not go down one week, but if you see that your body fat percentage went down, it can be a lot easier to stay motivated over the long haul. The FitTrack provides 17 different data points so you can compare your BMI over time or see a detailed report on your hydration whenever you want. Personally, I found the data points the FitTrack offers were exactly what I wanted to see when I was working on losing weight and getting more fit.
Now that I’m at my goal weight, I still want to know things like how my lean body mass and muscles are changing as I get even more fit, so the FitTrack is still a great tool for maintaining weight (or gaining, if that’s what your goal is)! Of course, if you’re used to just seeing your scale weight, it can take some time to understand and get used to seeing all the data the Fit Track provides, which can be a little overwhelming. For some people, simple is better, and if you think having 17 different data points about your body might get a little overwhelming, that’s okay too.
#2 Accurate and Scientific
The FitTrack is advertised as being incredibly accurate (+/- 3% accuracy!) and scientifically validated. Having data is important, but having accurate data is even more important, in my book. The Fit Track website talks a lot about all the details of how rigorous their scientific process is for collecting body measurements and validating that information.
The Fit Track Scale uses process called BioElectrical Impedance to measure the 17 different variables it tracks. Bioelectrical Impedance basically means that it sends a very mild, imperceptible electrical current through your body when you stand on the four scale sensors. The Fit Track algorithm then turns that signal into super detailed information about your body composition to help you understand exactly what’s going on in there.
FitTrack also has a medical advisory board directing this process, which says a lot about how dedicated they are to making a quality, accurate product. For me, I found it really reassuring to have the company be so transparent about the scientific validity of their process, so that I could have a lot of confidence in the product.
#3 Immediate Feedback
The bioelectrical feedback feature provides the same experience as what would happen in a doctor’s office or at a personal trainer’s if you went in for a quick body scan. Just step on the scale and it automatically collects the information. It’s incredibly easy, but going to the doctor every day isn’t really a thing people can do. Instead, imagine having that same information available instantly, every day! That’s definitely a benefit as far as I’m concerned.
Based on my own experience, I know that fitness motivation varies from day to day, so getting immediate feedback from the FitTrack can make a big difference in helping remind you to make good choices in the moment, like saying no to that chocolate chip cookie.
#4 Family Friendly Setup
One feature that is really nice for families, is that the Fit Track Scale actually can log the data of up to 8 different users. If your whole family is looking to get fit together, you can easily set up the Fit Track to monitor personalized details for each individual. You can even track your infant’s development with the Fit Track Scale, to help you feel more confident about your little ones’ development.
#5 See Trends Over Time
Being healthy is about more than just being at a healthy weight. The FitTrack smart scale makes it easy to see different health markers on trendlines. Yes, you get the snapshot of where you are today, but you can also compare your current numbers to how those numbers have changed over the past week, month, year, and so on. This makes it easy to get a more accurate picture of whether you are moving in the right direction over time.
#6 Flexible Payment and Refund Options
When I am making a big purchase, I want to know that I can get my money back if I am not satisfied, and Fit Track makes that really easy. If you decide to try out the Fit Track Scale, you can actually break the payments up into 4 lower cost payments to help it fit into your budget better, as well as feel safe with a 30-day money back guarantee in case you don’t love the purchase. This is a huge benefit when it comes to peace of mind in making a purchase like this.
Overall, I feel like the Fit Track Scale is a great balance of price and features. It provides really accurate data and shows that health is about more than just the number on the scale, which makes it a great motivational tool in everyday life. But don’t just take my word for it.
I scoured the internet and found a lot of people with really positive experiences with who created their own FitTrack reviews. Here are a couple of them, to give you an idea of what other people have to say about the product in their own FitTrack reviews:
Fit Track Alternatives
Of course, this product isn’t the only one out there that measures different aspects of body composition to help make fitness and weight loss easier. After reading all these FitTrack reviews, you might be interested in trying out a different smart scale or comparing other options, so I’ve pulled together some alternatives that you might like to check out.
#1 Fitbit Aria Air
For all the Fitbit fans out there, the Fitbit Aria Air is a sleek-looking smart scale that is a cheaper alternative to the FitTrack. This is a good option for the budget-conscious shopper who might not be interested in tracking as many data points. The Aria Air only tracks weight and BMI, so it has a lot fewer features than the FitTrack, but it does connect to the Fitbit app with instant, automatic updates. It also tracks multiple users, like the FitTrack does.
How the Fitbit Aria Air compares to the FitTrack:
- Only tracks 2 measurements
- Cheaper than the FitTrack
- Tracks multiple users
- Integrates with Fitbit App
If you like the Fitbit brand, have a tight budget, and don’t want as many features, the Aria might be the perfect choice for you. Check the Fitbit Aria Air out on Amazon here
#2 Fitbit Aria 2
The second edition of the Aria Air, the Fitbit Aria 2 Wi-Fi Smart Scale is both feature-rich and several times more pricey than both the Aria Air and the FitTrack. For someone who like the Fitbit brand and has more to spend, the Fitbit Aria 2 could be a great option. It connects to you existing Fitbit app, which is great because it means you don’t have to download a new app like you would with the FitTrack.
The Aria 2 is similar to the FitTrack in some ways. For example, it can manage 8 users and also connects to your phone app via Bluetooth, but it is different in that it only tracks four different body measurements: weight, BMI, lean mass, and body fat percentage. In my opinion, the Fitbit Aria 2 looks very classy. It is available in two different colors (black and white) and would look great in any bathroom.
How the Fitbit Aria 2 compares to the FitTrack:
- About twice as expensive as FitTrack
- Tracks four body measurements
- Manages the same number of users (8)
- Easy bluetooth sync to Fitbit app
If you are a fan of Fitbit products and are not on a tight budget, the Fitbit Aria 2 might be right for you. Check out the Aria 2 on Amazon here!
#3 RENPHO Bluetooth Body Fat Smart Scale
The RENPHO Bluetooth Body Fat Smart Scale is another less-expensive smart scale option on the market. It stores information on 13 different body measurements, making it more similar to the FitTrack in terms of the amount of information it provides. The RENPHO tracks many of the same things that the FitTrack tracks, including: BMI, Body Fat Percentage, Body Weight, Hydration Levels, Basal Metabolic Rate, Protein, Skeletal Muscle, Muscle Mass and Bone Mass, as well as Fat-free Body Weight, Metabolic Age, Subcutaneous Fat and Visceral Fat. Unfortunately, however, the scale itself only shows weight. In order to see all the rest of the health information, you would need to go to your smart phone app to access it.
The RENPHO has a few unique features: it can track unlimited users and it does have an app you can download. It also can help you set specific goals and track your progress toward them within the app. If you don’t want to download a whole new app, however, it will also sync data to many different fitness apps as well. For example, if you use a Fitbit, the RENPHO can sync directly to the Fitbit app or the iPhone Health app, which is pretty nifty!
How the RENPHO compares to the FitTrack
- Tracks 13 body measurements
- Tracks unlimited users
- Can sync to different fitness tracking apps
- Only displays weight on the scale
If you want a unique smart scale, the RENPHO might be right for you. Check it out on Amazon here.
If being healthy or losing weight are goals that you have, making an investment in a smart scale is a great way to stay on track. Losing weight and being healthy is about a lot more than just a single a number on the scale.
